About Gretchen
I have lived and worked in the UK for thirty years, having emigrated from the United States. During this time, I have worked primarily in public services, with individuals, couples, and families living in diverse social circumstances, and across the life cycle. I'm now working as a therapist in independent practice, and I also provide clinical supervision, consultation to teams, and training.
I am experienced in working with a broad range of mental health concerns, including the impacts of abuse and trauma, and I hold specific experience in working with the impact of chronic and incurable physical health conditions, loss and bereavement. I am also experienced in working with migration concerns and with NGOs working in contested border zones. I am strongly influenced by narrative practice, and aim to work collaboratively with clients, building on people's experience and abilities in the face of significant challenges.
