AFSP bursary scheme

Our bursary scheme helps make sure our events and training courses are open to as many family therapists, systemic practitioners and students as possible.

Someone reassures a man by touching him on shoulder in a group circle.

We recognise that our members work and study in a range of environments, and not everyone will have access to a budget for training and professional development.

With this in mind, we run a bursary scheme. We allocate a portion of the revenue from all our paid-for activities towards the scheme. We anticipate the budget will be more than £3,000 each year. This will provide a number of free places for our Annual Conference, as well as other events and courses.

Our bursary scheme’s aims are:

  • To support AFSP members to attend a conference, training event or webinar they couldn’t afford to attend otherwise
  • To particularly support access for groups who are underrepresented in our activities, and to encourage greater diversity among those representing the profession in the public domain

We make a number of bursaries available throughout the year. We’ll advertise each scheme and its eligibility criteria on this page and in our email newsletter.

AFSP Annual Conference 2026 – 15-16 October

We’re currently accepting applications for bursaries to attend our Annual Conference on 15-16 October 2026. The closing date to apply is 30 June 2026. We’ll let successful members know as soon as possible after this date.

To apply, please fill out the form below.

Eligibility

The scheme is open to UK-based AFSP members.

We’ll look at your financial circumstances as part of the application process. We understand this is a sensitive matter and will treat all applicants with respect and understanding. Any information you give as part of the application process will be confidential to the small number of people involved in the assessment process.

The bursary will only cover attendance fees and will not cover travel or accommodation.

Decision-making process

AFSP office staff will receive applications and do an initial assessment to make sure the application is eligible.

If we have more applicants than funding available, the organising sub-committee for the event will decide which applicants would benefit most from the bursary, based on the information in their application forms. Names and other personal information will be removed before assessment. We give priority to those who haven’t previously received a bursary.

How to donate to our bursary fund

If you would like to support our bursary fund and help fellow AFSP members to access our events, please email our operational director Phil Santana-Reedy at [email protected].
