About Hannah

I am a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist and Associate Professor at the University of Exeter. As the former CEO for the Association for Family and Systemic Psychotherapy (UK) (2022–2025), I bring over 30 years of national experience across mental health services as a clinician, academic, and trainer.

At the University, as an Associate Professor, I work as the Deputy Director of the large clinical training department CEDAR (Psychology); a national centre of excellence for evidence based training and practice. I have specific responsibilities for Fitness to Practice, lead on our Expert by Experience and EDI strategies, and am also the Director of the Systemic Portfolio. My own doctoral research explored young people’s experiences of ‘home’ within an adolescent psychiatric inpatient unit and the implications for staff training.

I am a past Associate Editor of the Journal of Family Therapy and am dedicated to expanding access to systemic ideas through innovative formats. My work includes contributions to a BBC documentary, an online couple therapy app, and several podcasts. I continue to present internationally and have published widely on various systemic ideas.

I continue to work as a clinician with families, couples and individuals and also provide supervision in my small private practice. Family and systemic psychotherapy is at the very heart of all my working contexts.
