About Shakira
Having grown up as a third culture kid, I bring openness, flexibility and curiosity to my therapeutic approach. I have a deep respect for difference and a commitment to working inclusively across cultures and identities. As a Systemic Psychotherapist and qualified EMDR practitioner, I warmly welcome individuals, couples, groups and families from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds. Clients may come to therapy with emotional, social or relational challenges, whether these are long-standing patterns, trauma or recent concerns.
Beyond my direct clinical work with families and individuals, I also offer specialist consultations, training and support to schools and organisations. My passion for training and development also extends into academics, where I am the foundation programme lead for the systemic programme in Birmingham, I'm a co-tutor on the intermediate programme and work as a supervisor supporting therapists through the qualifying years of their programme.
During a free consultation, we would explore your hopes for therapy or organisational support and discuss what led you to seek out care at this particular time. Each session can take place face-to-face (in Peterborough) or via an online meeting. I don't have specific expectations about session frequency or pacing. You may decide to see me weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on your needs and availability. My support can be short or long term, depending on your need and presenting circumstances. I do not work to a fixed number of sessions, allowing for flexibility and uniqueness as our therapeutic relationship develops. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at shakira@systemic-psychotherapy.co.uk or visit www.systemic-psychotherapy.co.uk
