About Simon
Hello,
I am Simon and currently work full-time within the NHS as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist within a CAMHS Eating Disorder Service.
I have worked with families for over 20 years supporting young people and parents, mainly around reducing conflict in the home, understanding attachment and building on family strengths to understand and de-escalate conflict within families.
I worked for many years in an edge of care service delivering MST (Multi-Systemic Therapy) supporting young people to remain at home, to stay in school or education and supporting young people at risk of criminal or sexual exploitation and grooming.
I deliver trauma informed practice and work with families with experiences of family breakdown, post-adoption and fostering support, kinship arrangements etc.
I am trained in Non-Violence Resistance (NVR) which is an approach to support parents to help manage heightened emotions and potential self-destructive or violent behaviours in children and to improve and develop relationships between parents/carers and their children/young people. I also deliver SPACE (Supportive Parenting of anxious childhood emotions) which is an adaptation to support young people experiencing severe anxiety and/or OCD.
Within the Eating Disorder service I help to deliver FBT (Family Based Treatment) which is the best evidenced approach to support families and young people to challenge their eating disorder and to move towards recovery.
I have children with an ASD diagnosis and work closely with families and young people with neuro-diversity and am an advocate for families and young people where they need reasonable adjustments to be able to better access support and to reach their full potential.
I always try to support families to recognise their own strengths and resources, to provide non-judgmental support and advice and to work alongside and with families rather than speak down to families.
